Waiting for decision

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I became disabled in October of 2010 and applied for SSDI. I have been treated by my doctor every week since then and have retained an attorney for my SSDI process.

I have been paying in to the Social Security system for 38 years and am 55 years old. I had been at my last job for 20 years until I had to retire in June 2012 due to my disability.

During my hearing the judge asked the Vocational Expert if I would be able to do full time work in my present position and she told the judge that I would not be able to. The judge then asked I would be able to do full time work in any position and the VE answered no, that I would not.

My doctor also provided paperwork that stated that I have a total disability and could not do any work. I also provided a letter from my former boss who I worked directly for the entire 20 years stating that I was a dependable and dedicated employee until I started missing a lot of days during the summer of 2010 due to the start up of my disability.

I just found out that my case is with a Decision Writer and would be turning the case back over to the judge in a couple of weeks.

My question is, with my work history, age, doctors treatment and findings of the Vocational Expert, what would be my chances of being rewarded benefits?

Hi Matt,
Because I am not a disability examiner or an ALJ, I cannot say what your chances of approval are. If you have good medical evidence to support all of your disabilities, you should have a fair chance of winning. It will also depend on which judge you end up seeing.

Hi there,
It is really hard to know whether or not you'd be approved. Mental disorders are very challenging to win disability benefits for. Hopefully you'll be approved in a couple of months!

Hi Don,
If you filled out your application online, the SSA should be able to contact your doctors' office. You can try calling 1-800-772-1213 to see where you could send your medical records to expedite the process.

Hello, I learned a decision was made on my ssdi but I have to find out the results via the mail within the next 2 weeks. I signed up for the ssgov website just a couple days ago so I have nothing to compare to,if there have been changes, etc. I would appreciate any feedback I can get, it's driving me nutty. I do notice a box that labeled income verification letter and when I open it, it's just has my birthdate.

Hi Rocky,
I am sorry to hear that! If you cannot get the website going, I would consider calling the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to see if they can give you a straight answer.

I had my hearing on February 17th 2016. I have been waiting on my decision for a lil over 3 months. I called the ODAR office and they informed me that my case was in the writers review process.I call every 2 days. I applied 2 and a half yrs ago. Im diagnosed with brachial plexus palsy. A nerve damage in my shoulder that prevents me from using my right arm. Does anyone know tha chances of me recieving SSI?

Hi Jason,
I would not be able to say what your chances are, however if you have extensive documentation of your disability, and have a disability advocate or attorney by your side, your chances would improve. In fact, if you fill out the form on the left of this page, we can have a disability advocate or attorney reach out to you.

Hi Tawanda,
I would not say that it is a sign of approval, the SSA generally sends a letter out to you indicating that your claim has been approved.

Hi Lashall,
I'm sorry for your loss! Unfortunately, we would not be able to say if your hearing is coming soon because we are not affiliated with the SSA. If you give the SSA a call at 1-800-772-1213, they may be able to help you find your hearing date. Also, if you have not already found representation, it may be a good idea to speak with a disability advocate or attorney, as they can help you with the process. If you fill out the form on the left of this page, we can have one reach out to you.

Hi there,
You may need to wait forty five to ninety days after the hearing date to receive your decision.
