I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

The only way this is possible is if the children are under age 18, or under 19 and still in high school. Additionally, the grandchildrens' parents must both be disabled or deceased, or you must adopt them.
my question is that i have a grand child and i think he may need some type of benefits . his parent doesn't want him and i as a grand parent may have to get full custody of the child . wanted to know how i can go about doing so.

I'm sorry, but unless the parents are deceased or disabled, you won't be able to receive benefits on their behalf unless your adopt him or he's disabled himself.

Your son should have received benefits as soon as you did! I'd contact the SSA if not.
I have one kid on ssi and just apply ed for sad for other I just gained custody of and found out father on disibilit I work do they use both the kids disibiluty money against my work income or just ssi

Hi there,
If your children's father is receiving SSDI benefits, then your children may be eligible for benefits based on his work record. Your income would be counted against your child's SSI benefits, but it may be a good idea to contact the SSA regarding how auxiliary benefits would interact with your other child's SSI.
Hello my daughters mother shot herself in an attempt to commit suicide she survived how ever she is 100% disabled. I have full custody of my absolutely awesome 7 year old daughter. My question is does she qualify for ssi benafits?

I'm sorry to hear about that! If your daughter has a disability, then they may be eligible for SSI benefits based off your income and your financial resources.
My kids dad and I has been separated for over 6 months. He is applying for Social Security Diability and needing the kids birth certificate. I am assuming he is claiming them on his SSD. I was wondering how would that effect me in anyway and on my tax since I will filing as head of household. Will my kids be getting that money or thats extra money for him on his SSD check. Thank you

It may be a good idea to contact the SSA regarding this, they can make sure that the benefits go to the children.
My son father been receiving disability over 9 yrs. I did not know until 2 months ago. So I applied for my son and still wait on an answer. The Social Security worker told me that they will pay back pay for only one year. How was I suppose to know he was on disability. I had him on child support since 2006 and judge order $17 a week. never knew or was told he was getting disability benefits.
Is there anything I can do to get more then just a year of back pay?

Hi Luz,
Depending on the type of benefit your son's father receives, your child may be eligible for back pay from the time that his father applied. However, if your ex is receiving SSI benefits, they may not be available for your child.

My husband won his disability benefits back in September. Since then he and I have separated and I currently care for my children. He barely makes an effort to help me and I can not get child support to call me back to try to get that started. I live in Ohio. How would I go about getting checks for my kids from his benefits?

Hi Destiny,
If your husband is receiving benefits based off of his work record, the children may qualify for auxiliary benefits. However, it may be a good idea to contact the office in Ohio that handles child support, they may be better able to help you.
If child support takes my disability back pay will I have to still pay taxes on that money I never get?

Generally that would depend on how you do your taxes, and what your state's laws on child support are.
