Social anxiety?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I've had social anxiety for over 20 years and I've always wanted to try to get social security for it cause I can't work because of it but my question is...how am I supposed to try and get it when I can hardly make myself leave the house let alone go to a lawyer and doctors or make phone calls and whatever else needs done to do it? Has anyone else with serious social anxiety done this and if so, how? Thank you.

Hello. Since diagnosis is difficult and the variability of the disorder is so high, you will need to have extensive medical evidence and detailed accounts of your daily life in order to qualify for disability. You could get a caregiver to help you apply for disability benefits. You can apply online and you can have your caregiver speak over the phone with the SSA.
