I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?
My husband became disabled from a stroke and was approved for disability. I was told our children would also receive benefits, my husband just received his first check, but I thought the check for the children would come together and it didn't. How do I find out when they get their check?

Hi Martha,
You may want to reach out to your local SSA office regarding this.
I am on disability and have adopted my grandson. Is he entitled to benefits and if so, how much?

Hi Natalie,
He may be eligible for benefits, however I really could not say how much as it is tied to a beneficiary's work record.
My husband and I are still married 22years, however we have been separated for 2. Our two children lives with me. I receive benefits for them. I received a letter the are reducing benefits because he had another child. With me filing for spousal benefits, how would it effect my children. He gets a max of 1600 for him and another $820 that is now split between three kids. I was getting the 820. Now I get like 410..which has put me in a financial strain. Will me applying for auxiliary benefits will that hurt my children?

Hi there,
You may be eligible for spousal benefits, however it appears that your family is receiving the maximum amount of benefits for a household.
My 10yr old son is on disability. He is having major behavioral issues and might have to go stay with family to help me out for a few months in a diff state. Will I need to change his payee for those few months even if I give my family his card to be used for him, then change it back to me when he comes home?

Hi Theresa,
You may be able to do that, it may be a good idea to contact your local SSA office regarding this for detailed information about your specific case.

Hi Donna,
Your husbands benefits would not stop due to taking care of his grandson, if he is still otherwise eligible.

Hi Maria,
I'm not aware of any federal benefits programs for caregivers, but you may want to contact the office in your state that handles social services, they may be able to help you with that.
I receive SSDI for about 10 years now & just learned about auxiliary benefits for my children but just found out their father just applied for SSDI would they get benefits from both of us since he is no longer able to work & provide any child support?

Hi there,
Your children should be eligible for auxiliary benefits so long as they're under age 18 and unmarried!
My boyfriend applied for disability 2yrs ago and put our 1yr old down to receive benefits as well...I know he will get back pay from the day he signed up for it but Will she get back pay also!?

Hi Jessica,
Your child may be eligible for back pay as well.
My (we are living in same house) exboyfriend/son's father will be getting disability soon. Ss already said our son will qualify for benefits. My ex filled out the paperwork & will be his payee. Question: my son & I will be moving out soon. Is my ex still entitled to be payee? Son will reside with me & have visitation with father.

Hi there,
Yes, your ex may still be eligible to be payee, even if he does not live with you and your son.
My ex boyfriend has become disabled. His benefits start in March. SSAdministration notified him our son would be eligible for benefits. The ex let me know he signed up for this & to be son's payee. Our son lives with me full time. Wouldn't I be payee since our son resides with me? Please help!!!!

Hi Katherine,
You could be his payee--You cannot arrange this online, but you can fill out the paperwork to receive his portion of the benefits at your local SSA office. You can schedule an appointment once your ex is approved by calling the SSA toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.
