How is a payment amount determined?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Hi there!

So I've been on disability for about 6 years now, with my payments around the 500$ mark. It's not easy living on that much, but I've made it work and been grateful for the help. Yet today, a friend received her decision to receive disability, and she's been awarded over 1,000$, more than double my own amount. I had no idea payments could go so high. I can't help but wonder how this works now, and if it's possible to get my own payments raised.

Thank you for your time!

I am on ssdi. My monthly check is $827. Originally it was like $797 when it started. My 4 dependant children received a check for $47 each as my family benefit. A few years later my husband became disabled. As of today, bc I can't remember what he started off at 3 yrs ago. His check is around $875-900. From the start each of our 2 children received over $400 & now currently $ 453 each per month.

Does anybody know whether that SSI back pay comes on a certain day of the month? I got my first installment the same week I was approved for SSI it came on the same day I got my first benefit. But I should receive one in January and I'm trying to figure out when I will see it? If anyone has any experience with receiving them in would love to hear about it!

Switching SS retirement benefits to SS Disability

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Hello, had a quick question and cannot seems to find the answer anywhere. My Mother recieves SS early retirement at the age of 63 but has had some medical problems that I know would make her eligible for SS disability benefits. I just want to know what the procedure would be to go about to change it. Does she have to go down to the office and refile?

Relationship with someone on SSDI getting serious

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Hello there, I've been dating someone on SSDI for nearly a year, and we are discussing our future. I assume that his SSDI is auxiliary from his parents, so he's been told that he will lose benefits (income and insurance) if he gets married. This is not a huge concern for the duration of marriage, as he could be on my benefits. HOWEVER, the concern is if we would ever end up divorced, could he get back on SSDI from his folks? Does he have to pay back anything he's collected in the years before I knew him? How long would it take to get benefits reinstated?
