I am receiving SSI in California. Should I relocate in VA, can I still continue receiving that benefit?

SSI is a federal program, so your move to Virginia will not effect your eligibility or receipt of SSI. The only thing that would change would be the State Supplement Program amount, which is a state-based program that pays an additional amount on top of the SSI maximum ($735) to bring recipients to what is deemed a minimal level. In California, the SSP amount is $156 for a single disabled or aged (non-blind) person living independently (paid by the state to bring a recipients income to $889, so it's $735+156), while in Viriginia the State Supplement program seems to only available to people living in either assisted-living or adult foster care.

Hi,
ARB is right, moving would not affect your eligibility at all, however, like they said, the amount you get from the State Supplement, if you are eligible for it, would change.
