When I initially met with my attorney, I was told that back pay would go back one year from application, minus 5 months (I had already waited over 2 years to file because I was told I would have "full recovery" after my 2 fusion surgeries). I've received my acceptance letter but not my back pay yet, and during my search for more info on the process I came across a SSDI page stating that even if it takes 24 months for your claim to get approved, you can only receive pay for 12 months. Can anybody help clarify this for me please? Also, I have friends who received their back pay before or immediately after their approval letters (NY), but I've seen posts by people saying it took several months so I was wondering if there was a formula for when I can expect mine? I'm not looking to go on a spending spree, but I have a mortgage, car payment, property and school taxes, and children to feed and clothe as well as one in an expensive college. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and all input is appreciated.
This is kind of a complex question but I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this....
My husband filed for SSDI originally April 2014, he was denied and it went to hearing. He did not go to the hearing bc of his PTSD, Anxiety and etc. So that hearing was cancelled and his claimed denied.
He reapplied in July of 2016, he will be scheduled for a hearing this July. We have an attorney and I am confident that he will succeed with his claim.
My question is, Is there anyway that we can get them to go back to his original date of file April 2014? Circumstances in which we would state would be that
We were not married then and I could not speak to anyone on his behalf, attorney, SSDI department, anyone...He became frustrated and overwhelmed (Medical history will prove this is a typical pattern) Is this the judges decision or are her hands tied with his file date?

Hi Beky,
That would be something that your attorney would be more qualified to answer. This case is unique, so I don't believe I could give you the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Best of Luck,
Eric

Hi Kaisha,
I am sorry to hear that. You may want to contact a Social Security attorney to see if you may be entitled to that.

Hi there,
You may want to contact the SSA regarding this, you can do so by giving them a call at 1-800-772-1213.
I just went to my social website to check on my case and found the most recent update what does this mean? was dated 3-9-2017

Hi Sally,
I really can't say what it means for the disposition of your case, but it seems like they're making sure everything is in order and is accurate!

How long can that take already 3/30/2017 and still no updates on the ss website or a letter of approval or denial yet?

Hi Sally,
Every case is different, so they can take varying lengths of time.
I'm still waiting on a decision rather I will be approved or not, but now with a new president and with the scary health scare changes that is going to affect me really bad so scared once I get approved that will be taken away from me as well.

Hi Thendara,
I am sorry that you are feeling scared. However, there have been no announcements from President Trump about any changes to Social Security.

Hi Pam,
Unfortunately, I cannot say for sure how often your case online updates, but you should be notified if any changes are made regarding to it.

I just curious, I notice some have to go to the social security Dr and some don't , I guess they already made a decision , just waiting on a letter rather . I'm my letter rather being approved or denied, so is it a bad sign that they did not have me go, some of my friends had to go ?

HI there,
I really could not say as the SSA may require a consultive examination, however they may not require it in all cases.
My lawyer called today and said his payment is at his bank to go in his account. I called my bank no pending deposit as of yet on my back pay. Shouldnt i get paid since my lawyer is getting his pay?

Hi Kelly,
They may be processing it, it may be a good idea to contact your local SSA office for some more detailed information specific to your case.
Hi
I'm kinda confused, I did apply and now just waiting for an answer and reading ppl questions and responses here and reading other information on the internet. I'm 54 and have health issues which makes it very hard for me to do the work I use too, and plus very overweight. I only work 4 4hrs a day maybe 2 or 3 days a week if that. so as of now I make less then $500 a amonth but if I get approved I would get more, that is how I do my banking I have it deposited in to my savings first then transfer what I need into my checking when I have to pay a bill , so I have very little in my checking account for safety reasons, so I noticed from reading on here and other resources social security has cut ppl off for having funds I in there savings , but mine is not for actual saving for a rainy day mine is in there only for a short time because after I pay my bills for the month now gone in no time, but if I get approved it will show more, will that mess things up for me , hope this makes since . some times shows I have over $600 in there but then sometimes I have barley $10 but that is just how I do my bills to keep my money safe not to hide money , I just do want to lose my ssd thinking I have a lot of money in my savings because I do not . I just do it opposite and not put a lot in my checking account

Hi there,
If you receive SSI benefits, then you would be able to have savings of less than $2000 in your savings before you would be ineligible for benefits.
