hi

i have real bad arthritis and i have worked doing masonry and construction for almost 19 years and now it is real hard for me to get up and do my job and i have to figure something else out to do. i looked at going to school or something but i havent been to school since high school and i dont think i will be able to do it. i am in my 40s and i want to be able to provide for my family but i know that i cant work like this much longer its too hard. it gets real bad on days when it rains. i know you guys have a thing to fill out on here for help but i wanted to ask before i filed anything out. do you think i should try to apply for social security disability or do you think i will get denied cuz its only arthritis?

Hi Roy,
I am not sure what you are asking here. We only work with people who are applying for SSDI/SSI claims, who would not qualify for short-term disability. I'm afraid that I cannot be much help in answering questions about short-term disability.

I was in a car accident in February on my way to work at about noon to 1pm, where I blacked out behind the wheel. I missed a lot of work and ended up getting let go because absence due to a bunch of medical tests and seeing specialists, but during that time I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, I would stop breathing and my sleep was disrupted over 130 -200 times per hour. I am currently being treated via cpap machine but I still have the fatigue, daytime drowsiness, and issues with remembering things and forgetfulness and concentration. As the suspension of my license from the accident is going to be lifted soon I am beginning to get anxious and worry about driving and looking for work.... then working in general. I was wondering if I have a case where I may qualify for social security disability benefits?

Hi Richard,
It may be difficult to get approved for disability benefits for sleep apnea if you have recently been diagnosed. For most disabilities, you'll need to show that you've been taking some form of treatment and have not had any improvement. Here is some more information on applying for disability benefits with sleep apnea: http://www.disability-benefits-help.org/disabling-conditions/sleep-apnea

I am currently employed and have been. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety, extreme depr ession and borderline personality disorder. I have also been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, polycystic fibrosis, copd, and ulcerative colitis. In the past month I find it harder and harder to get out of bed. My work environment has made me paranoid and panic attacks. I will actually get sick with just the thought of going to work. I have been bulied at work and that has made my ptsd worse

Hi Diane,

I don't think it's possible unless you had a very serious condition that could approved right away. Enough time would pass and it would just convert into regular Social Security benefits.

I have Arthritis in both knees, right ankle, left hip and my back. I am unable to work because of this. I cannot stand up for too long and have difficulties in walking so I have to use a stick to keep my balance. What disability can I get?
