Qualifying children

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi Amee'Lea,
Back pay and regular benefits are separate, so your new child may be eligible for back pay, but would split benefits with your other eligible children

My son recently started receiving benefits for his ADHD and depression and now his father who hasn't been around in years got remarried and is taking me to court for temporary custody of my child does that affect his benefits just until he comes back with me because we have temporary we have the same benefits to my child I take care of him and his well-being his father doesn't he's just doing it out of spite and I'm worried about my kid I have a lawyer but since the residents is now under his name since we went to court last week I don't know what's going to happen does anybody been through this or know what can happen they make way too much money he has never helped me with my child he will not keep up with his mental status I'm worried I'm going to call tomorrow but I can't sleep just thinking about it because he texted me that he wanted his information and I'm not going to give it to him right away without talking to somebody from the Social Security office and my son doesn't want to be there with him or anything it was due to his older brother that wanted to be with the dad and there's also some bad stuff pending on his dad but I need to know what can happen because I'm worried about my son's schooling about taking his medication his doctor's appointments which he already missed one because he had him and didn't want him to give him to me for his appointment

Hi There,

I am so sorry to hear that. The best idea would be to call the Social Security Administration regarding your matter. Wishing you nothing but the best.

HI Monique,
It may vary as every case is different, but you may see those benefits sent at the same time as your regular monthly benefits.

If she is qualifying under your disability and you get backpay then she might as well.

Hi, I know someone who is still collecting a disability check for her child but does not have custody for her child. How do you report this, and what information to provide to whom you reporting this too.
