I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?
I am disabled and recieve disability i have 3 daughers can i apply for benefits for them.? Are they entitled?

Hi there,
if you're getting SSDI benefits, they may be able to get auxiliary benefits. If you're getting SSI benefits, then your children would not be eligible.
Would benefits be taken out mine?

Hi there!
If you receive SSDI benefits and have auxiliary benefits for your children, it would not be taken out of your benefits, it would be additional benefits on top of your monthly benefits.
a friend gets ssd check and his 17 year old son gets 755 a mo. from his dads ssd check does he still have to pay child support he just got a summons to go to court

Hi Dustin,
He may still have to pay child support, however the child support amount may be affected by the SSDI auxiliary benefits that the child gets.
My daughter is nine years old her father recently qualified for disability benefits does she qualify also
In reply to My daughter is nine years old by Christina (not verified)
Hi Christina,
It would depend on what benefits your daughter's father became qualified for. If he's getting SSDI, she may be eligible, if he's getting SSI, she may not be eligible for benefits.
Ex wife was on disabilty benefits recently passed away will my two children automatically recieve benefits

Hi Dom,
You may have to apply for those benefits, it might be a good idea to get in touch with the SSA to confirm. You can call them at 1-800-772-1213.
My daughter has significant disabilities and receives ssi. My 4 yr old was just diagnosed with autism. My husband left us and I'm a full time caregiver to them. If I apply for ssi for my 4 yr old is it the same amount as my 6 yr old? Such as $733 each or $733 total? My daughter with health problems would require a full time RN and my daughter with autism is very difficult to handle and would not do well with a new person so going back to work is desperately desired but not feasible.

Hi Heather,
I believe that the total in your situation would be $1,100 at most. So your second child would not be eligible for the full $733.

Hi Debbie,
if the SSA requires you to have a payee, you can have another trusted person become a payee. If you call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213, they can help you arrange to change your payee.
I'm on SSD and my daughter gets a check off of me her mother and I never got married she was never in her life her mother had filed for her Disability and was approved. I have 2 questions-1 she owes approximately 10,000 back child support will she have to pay that? And will she still have to keep on paying her court ordered support?
In reply to I'm on SSD and my by Tim (not verified)
Hi Tim,
If she's on SSDI benefits, her benefits may be garnished, but regardless, she is still responsible for any child support she may owe, regardless of eligibility for SSI or SSDI benefits.
I have legal custody of two children ( non related ) I am near retirement age- having had custody for 4 years, I would like to adopt these children. Their parents are either in prison or into drugs, they should never be allowed to go back to that situation. Can I attach my social security benefits to them since I have custody of them but they are non related.
In reply to I have legal custody of two by PGR (not verified)
Hi there,
Unfortunately, they may only be eligible for benefits in two circumstances: (1 Their parents are either disabled or deceased, or (2 you adopt them.
Luckily, since you already want to adopt the children, they would be eligible after that point.
