I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi Amanda,
Are you still under age 18? If so, you may not be able to get your back pay. But if you're age 18 or older, you should be entitled to some of it! Your best bet would be to contact your local SSA office to try to get your back pay.
My ex has 2 kids that qualify for ssdi, two different moms. When one kid turns 18, will the amount be automatically adjusted or do i need to contact ss office.

Hi there,
The SSA may be able to handle that change in benefits.
My ex husband is recently approved and started receiving payments. How can I add my kids to his disability, does he have to be present if he is on their birth certificate, he is an addict and does not live anywhere and I can not track him down ever.

I just recently applied my son for disability. He has cerepalsly. If approved, how much a year can we still make, without it interfering with his disability.

Hi Melissa,
If approved, he could earn up to $733 per month. How much you can make depends on whether or not you're married and if you have additional children. You could make at least $36,000 per year and still have him qualify.
I was approved for ss disability Several years back and i got a back payment check , So i was married and had a step-child and also a son that lived with his mom.Well my wife stepdaughter and son started getting a check off of me but they did not get any back payment as i did. So i was wanting to know why did they not get back payment or was they not suppose to get it. Can someone help me out to see if i need to check into this. Thanks

Hi Timothy,
Had you been married for more than one year before you applied? If not, they may not be entitled to any back pay. If so, you should call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to inquire about this.
Do I have to file for child support in order for my child to receive SSD if his father does Not live with us? When I talked to someone they asked me if I had a child support order which I don't.

Hi Danielle,
No, you do not. Your child should still receive SSDI benefits on behalf of his father so long as he is under age 18.
My husband was just granted full residential custody of his children. Their mother will have visitation sporadically throughout the year. Currently she is receiving their SSDI benefits from their father being disabled. Should those benefits now be paid to him as their primary residential parent and how does he go about getting them changed over to him instead of his children's mother? Thank you.

Hi there,
You will need to go to your local SSA office to change the payee. It's actually a pretty simple process--you'll just need to fill out a couple of pieces of paperwork.
I am on SSDI and have a two year old child. I was told I don't qualify to get money but from everything I read I do! I am disabled and have been over 15plus years. I had her 2years ago. Why don't I get benefits for her? She is not disabled and I do get SSDI.

Hi Cindy,
She should ABSOLUTELY qualify for SSDI benefits under your account! Who told you otherwise?
