My husband has been diagnosed with dementia but I do not see dementia on the list. All of his doctors says he can not work with his condition and they have also requested him not to drive anymore. Wouldn't this qualify as disabled?
Hi Sanise,
You husband may qualify for benefits based on his condition. However, many initial applications are denied. It may be a good idea to speak with a disability advocate or attorney about his case, you can have one reach out to you by either filling out the form on the left, or by going here: http://www.disability-benefits-help.org/form/free-disability-evaluation
I too do not understand that why when a person has been diagnosed with stage 4 dementia, his short term memory I'd gone, and yet he still doesn't qualify. Can someone explain how and why this I'd.

Hi Bobbi Jo,
I am sorry to hear that. Unfortunately there is no black and white answer as to why exactly. You might want to speak to a Social Security rights advocate or attorney to help you:http://www.disability-benefits-help.org/form/free-disability-evaluation
Dementia and Alzheimers are listed under blue book Neurocognitive disorders (12.02)
