Hi there,
You may be able to so long as you were married for at least 10 years and you're over age 50.
My daughter and I have been on our own for 8 years. Me and her dad my still husband never divorced. I am now finding out I have all these mental and phycological issues. One major is PTSD. It makes living in society very tough. But my question is (Can I Get any Help financially) from her dad's social security benefits?

Hi Ray,
You may be able to do so if your husband is also receiving Social Security benefits, however you may want to apply on your own work record.
My husband collects disability, at present, we are separated. I am the payee. What are the laws regarding his disability benefits? Is this money for him exclusively? I can't seem to get an answer. Thank you very much.

Hi there,
Those funds are intended for the person receiving the benefits, you may want to contact the SSA for further information, you can contact them at 1-800-772-1213
Getting a divorce and I'm a disabled and receiving SSDI. Can my spouse get alimony from SSDI ? We were married for 18 yrs and she is only 45 and able to work. I need the money I receive to pay for my medicine and living expenses.

Hi there,
While SSDI benefits are generally unable to be garnished, you may be subject to any agreements that you make during your divorce proceedings.
I am physically disabled and cannot work. My spouse has filed for divorce and had me kicked out of our home. She took all of my disability check for this month and left me with only 100.00. She is fully capable of working and is only 45 yrs. old . We have been married for 18 yrs. My question is she is trying to get alimony from my disability check which is my only source of income! Can she do this? Most of my income goes towards paying for my medications and living expenses.

Hi James,
Generally disability benefits are not able to be garnished, but you would still be subject to any agreement that you make during your divorce proceedings.
