I received two lump sum payments, but I have not spent all of the funds. I want to make a funeral arrangement and buy a car. How soon must I spend the lump sum payment.

Hi Alisia,
She may not receive that money, as the SSA adjusts benefit amounts when someone enters residential care facilities.
When can I expect my back payment from my survivor's benefit cause I have been waiting a long time and I am pregnant
In reply to When can I expect my back by Stacy cuartero (not verified)
Hi Stacy,
You may not receive back pay for survivor's benefits as the SSA pays survivor's benefits from the time you make the application, not the death of the person whose work record those benefits are based on.
My son has Downs Syndrome (Trisomy 21). He is 24. When filing for ssdi on parents retirement what will be considered his entitlement date? Will he receive retroactive payments to his birth?
In reply to My son has Downs Syndrome by Theresa G. (not verified)
Hi Theresa,
Your son may be entitled to benefits from the time that he applies, it may be unlikely that the SSA would extend benefits to the time of birth for those benefits.
Hello there,
My child was approved for SSI 8/2016. I also received his first installment of back pay. They said the second I installment will be given in 6 months. My question is will I need to request the second installment or will they automatically send it to the account? Also, will they ask for receipts of monies spent from first installment before they send 2nd?
In reply to Hello there, by Monique (not verified)
Hi Monique,
They may automatically send the money, and it's always a good idea to keep receipts regarding any money that you have spent from those funds.
I have been waiting for my back pay and they keep telling me you'll get it in 10 days and nothing comes

Hi there,
You may still be eligible for back pay from your SSI, you may want to contact your local SSA office to confirm that.
I got a back pay CK from SSI and then they took my SSI because of income do I have to pay that back

Hi Jody,
Unless the SSA has determined that they have overpaid you, they may not ask for that money back.

Hi Karen,
If you can bring documentation of your hardship to the SSA they may be able to send you the next installment or part of it to help you with your car.

How long did it take you to receive your first installment after being approved for benefits?
In reply to How long did it take you to by Latraneice Rowe (not verified)
Hi there,
That would depend on the benefit you are receiving, if you are getting SSDI then the wait would be five months from the time of approval, and if you're receiving SSI it would be in the month after approval.
My 12 year old daughter got her 2nd instalment July 2016 when in January 17 will she receive 3rd instalment come
In reply to My 12 year old daughter got by Sandra (not verified)
Hi Sandra,
SSI back pay installments are paid out every six months, so your child may be receiving her next installment this month. You may want to contact the SSA regarding this.

Hi there,
You may need to appeal, but you'd also need the appropriate work record to qualify for SSDI benefits.
