I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?
My son gets ssdi from his dad...if we have another kid will it get the same amount of money as my son or will they split it between the 2?

Yes, the benefits will be split between the children up to the family benefit maximum of 180% of the recipient's benefits.
My daughter is a preemie and receives a check because of her daddy's disability. Does she get a another check for being premature and being in first steps

my daughters father gets a disability check from when he was in the military? his son gets one as well. should my daughter, his daughter as well get one? if so what steps should i take?

You may want to contact the VA to find out if your daughter is eligible for those benefits.
I have a 6yr old with cerebral palsy who lives with his mother. I'm in the process of buying a home for them to reside as finding an apartment that is handicap accessible has proven to be to costly or non existent. If I buy the home and allow his mother to move in with my child and her other child and she assumes responsibility of the mortgage will that disqualify my son from receiving benefits? Hi Damien,
Owning one home ( of any value) should not affect your child's eligibility for benefits, if they otherwise qualify for benefits.

My children live with my ex the majority of the month we split it 60/40ish i pay child support even during the waiting process for my decision and now i got approved for ssdi since i have the kids more than average should i be able to apply and qualify for dependents benefits or would it go to my ex since he has them more than me? Just wondering cause my benifits would pay out more than my support obligation. I also know the money wouldn't be used for my kids it would be spent on the new family instead.ex. $300 and i pay $200 a month (not actual numbers)

Hi Bob -
Any benefits that are awarded to your children are auxiliary benefits and can be paid out to them regardless of who they live with. Generally, the benefits would go to whomever applied to them, unless you had specified another person to whom the benefits would be paid.

The children you are raising would have to either be your adopted children, your stepchildren, or your grandchildren whose parents are either deceased or disabled for them to qualify for benefits.
Granddaughter qualified for disability SSI. Have an appointment . I have custody of her but my husban makes 80,000.00 a year doe she still get her money because she is 9 years old.

SSI is dependent on income and resources, so it would depend on whose resources ( either the child's parents or you and your husband's) the SSA is considering when looking at your granddaughter's eligibility. Here's a link to some more information on this:

SSI does depend on how much income and resources the parents have.
I have recently got custody of my great niece.
I have been on ssd for 6 months. Will she be able to receive any benefits? Neither of her parents can have custody of her. Mother is in a criminal case involving her. The state will not let her father have her because of his instability.

Hi Karla,
If one or both of her parents is able to recieve SSDI, then she may be eligible for benefits based off of their record, but she would not be eligible for benefits based on your unless you had adopted them.
