I recently was involved in an accident while working on a car. I tripped and part of the motor (the manifolds) that I was working on fell on my hand, crushing two fingers on my right hand. I was taken to St. Francis and the doctors put pins in my fingers and I am unable to work for an extended period of time--possibly ten weeks. I was unemployed at the time of my accident--I was picking up a mechanic job to get by. My question is: Is there a short term disabliity I would be eligible to apply for? I have a family and we have no source of income. What am I eligible for--if anything, and how would I apply for this? Thanking you in advance for your response. Bernie

Hi Peggy,
You might qualify, but I would not recommend applying until you have some kind of diagnosis. Having rich medical records are your best chance of getting approved. If you cannot get a diagnosis, ask your doctor to fill out an RFC on your behalf. This is an evaluation stating how much or how little you can work.
