I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?
Hey I've been disabled for almost 3 years I don't have legal rights to my 5 year old daughter because my ex didn't tell me when she was born! I want to do right and let her get part of my disability every month to make sure she'll taken care of! Can I put her on disability without being on birth certificate legally? How far will her disability check back pay her?

Hi Dalton,
I am sorry to hear that. I would recommend speaking to a SSA representative about that matter: 1-800-772-1213

My daughter was killed in a car accident and she has two kids that the dad has sole custody of. Social workers took them out of his home and gave me emergency custody and has been that way for a month and a half. Is he supposed to be still getting the social security checks that the kids receive?

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear all that! You may want to contact the SSA regarding this if your grandchildren stay in your custody as you may be able to be assigned as a payee, but regardless you may want to coordinate with the father to ensure that the children have those benefits used for their care and upkeep.
I am a veteran with that is receiving social security disability due to MI problems in which I have had for 7 years, but I have only been receiving ssdi for 3 years. If I was to have a baby will my benefits be cut?
In reply to I am a veteran with that is by Keisha (not verified)
Hi Keisha,
The SSA would not cut benefits due to someone having a child, regardless of their condition.

Hi Nancy,
If you receive benefits based on your work record, your daughter may be eligible for benefits. You may want to contact your local SSA office, you can find a listing of them here:

My children's father gets social security and my children are eligible to receive benefits. I am waiting for the interview process. What information will I need to bring along and how long does the process take? When will they receive a check and will they get back pay?
In reply to My children's father by Kacee816 (not verified)
Hello,
For your interview:
Information about your medical treatment sources, including all the hospitals, clinics, and doctor's offices where you have been seen. You should be sure to include all the medical sources that treated you at the time you first became disabled. You will need to inform Social Security about the types of work that you performed in the fifteen years prior to your disability. You will will need information about your marriages, children, income, resources, and military service dates to process non-medical requirement issues that are involved in the disability claims process. As well as Income and resource (assets) information.
Your children may be able to receive back pay.
Best Wishes,
Eric

Before my husband & I married we had a baby. He signed an acknowledgment of paternity at the hospital and his name is on the birth certificate as his legal father. We married a few months later and stayed married 9 years and then separated. While going through our bitter divorce my husband didn't want to pay child support and asked for a DNA test. To my complete surprise the result came back that he wasn't the biological father. Devasting news after 9 years. The judge then ordered that he didn't have to pay child support. Even though he signed the affidavit when baby was born and he is listed as his legal father on the birth certificate. Since then I found out that over the past 3 years he has been receiving disability benefits. My question is can my son receive benefits also since he is the legal father on his birth certificate?

Hi Heather,
This is a really sensitive case, I really could not say if your child would be eligible for benefits. You may want to consult the SSA for their criteria, you can call them at 1-800-772-1213
