I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?
My child turn 18 on 2/8/17 in they stop her disability benefits in she still go to high school. She just pass to the 11 grade n she have a one on one special education teacher that help her .on they want me to do appeal on her case so do u think they will still continue her benefits

Hi Tasha,
I really could not say for sure, but your child may be eligible for benefits based on her own income and resources. You may want to contact your local SSA office for more information.

Hi Cataleya,
You may not be able to do so as SSI benefits do not come with benefits for family members.
My husband is on disability & his 2 kids receive benefits. We got married almost 4 years ago and I have 3 children. If one of my husbands kids decide to go live with their mother, can one of my kids receive his portion of the benefits?

Hi A,
SSDI benefits based off of a parent's work record have some leeway to them as far as how they can be spent, however they are generally intended to be used for the child that they are sent to.
If i already receive ssi and i qualify for child benifits i have doctors notes can i expect to get back pay at hearing?

Hi Trevor,
You may not as you are already receiving benefits.
I have custody of my son, his dad is applying for disability benefits. I have no idea if he is listing his so. Or not, he shouldn't be because he doesn't take care of him and never has. Will child support file for my son through his dad or do I need to? Do they take child support out of his disability if he is approved? How does that work?

HI LeAnne,
I really could not say as child support is handled on a state-by-state basis and your son's father would need to comply with his state regulations.

Hello,
Children can qualify off of a parent if they are not disabled themself until they are 18.

HI Patricia,
If your son's father was receiving SSI benefits, your son may not be eligible for benefits as SSI benefits are only for individuals with disabilities.
