Hi Latonya,
You can change your payee by visiting your an SSA office. If you have a new payee in mind, try to have them come with you with their Social Security card and a picture ID. If you do not have someone in mind, then the SSA can assign you one.
If I have a payee can i call the office and try to get her change without her being notified

My friend just moved from Texas to Kansas. She wants me to be her new payee. What documents are going to be needed by both her and me to be able to get this done?

Hi Denise,
You both will need to go to your local SSA office to change her payee to you. You'll need your Social Security card and at least one picture form of ID.

Hi Jessica,
To become your own payee, you'll need to do so at your local SSA office. Just know that becoming your own payee can open a new investigation by the SSA to see if you're still eligible for benefits.
Gm, My payee is my husband over me. And how do I get this changed to where I don't have a payee over me?

Hi Sheila,
You can do so at your local SSA office. Just be aware that changing it so that you are your own payee can often trigger the SSA to reevaluate your claim.

Hi Brittney,
Back pay is awarded by the SSA. If you were awarded back pay, it would have gone into the account your mother is the payee of.
