I am new to this forum and applying for any benefits.
A status change occurred and it said the following:
"A medical decision has been made and we are working to process your benefit application. A Social Security Representative may contact you directly if we need any additional documents or information."
Now, if I were denied....why would they need any additional documents. So is it safe/fair to think I may have been approved. Has anyone else had this same message and been approved and how soon should I expect to find out either online or by mail. Thank you
Hello. More than likely, you have been medically approved. However, they have not yet determined eligibility for benefits. They may be reviewing if they need any other forms of documentation for your medical history or they may just be reviewing your financial eligibility for SSI.
Hello, I received this last week after hearing for SSDI: what does this mean?
"Appeal Under Review:A medical decision has been made and we are working to process your decision. A Social Security Representative may contact you or your appointed representative directly if we need any additional documents or information".

Hi There,
It means that they are finalizing their decision and you should hear something back from the SSA in the near future. If they need any additional paperwork like medical records or tests they will reach out to you. Best of luck!

Hi Travis,
It just means they are still processing your claim. Every case is different for how long it takes to get approved. 4 and a half months is pretty typical. Hang in there & best of luck!

Should I be hopeful? I’m supposed to be going to a hearing but nothing has been scheduled yet. Can they make a favorable decision without me going to a hearing?

Hi Carolyn,
They can make a decision without a hearing. The message you read means that they have made a decision on if you are medically eligible for benefits. There are other factors that they are now looking at (like if you under the income limits or if you have enough work credits). I would continue to monitor your account to make sure they don't need any other information to help speed up the process. Best of luck!
I was denied SSI benefits after is it possible I can be approved for SSDI benefits or do I need to do a separate application for SSDI

Hi Alice,
It is possible to qualify for one and not other. If you meet the medical qualifications and have enough work credits, then you may qualify for SSDI.
As for the application, I am honestly not positive if you need to file a new one or can use your SSI one. I would call the SSA ask or contact your disability attorney/advocate (if you worked with one) to find out the next steps to take. Best of luck!
