I am 52 years old and have been disabled for 8 years due to renal failure. My question is, since I have had a kidney transplant, does my social security benefits end. If so when, because there is always a chance of rejection. If it does end, I do not want to be taken by surprise, will they let you know early enough, or will it be oneof those deals where they just cut you off, then inform you that you are no longer eligible?
I received a kidney in Sept. of 2016. due to problems after the transplant I considered retiring. I went to SSI office to get an evaluation of my retirement benefits. I could have sworn the woman told me that in addition to SSI benefits that I would qualify for some disability benefits. Was I hearing things correctly?

my brother had a kidney trans plant last week. he is currently living in palmdale ca. and must travel 2 times a week to Ronald Reagan hospital in los angeles, which is approx. 67 mi. away which takes about 1hr 30 min to drive depending on traffic. his appts are schedualed at 6am in the morn. is there any ssa benefit that he can take advantage of?

Your brother may qualify for disability benefits if the transplant has left him unable to work. He needs to meet the medical qualifications under the SSA's Blue Book listing 6.00 and have enough work credits. The Blue Book is available online to review.
I just received a letter for possible jury duty within the next year. I also had a kidney transplant on 7/30/18 after 5 years of hemodialysis. Also, because of severe hearing loss in both ears I was given a lifetime exemption back in the late 70’s. So now I’m worried that I will have to do jury duty. Do I meet the disability criteria because of my recent transplant? I know this forum pertains to disability benefits but hopefully this question can be answered. Thank you!

I had a transplant kidney in 2017 I was on dialysis for 12years this is my only income I got a notice for revaluation will they cut me off or give a chance for work training program cause this is only income and I'm worried ill be homeless

I received a kidney transplant in January of this year. I'm 72 years old and receiving retirement social security. Will the kidney transplant SS disability for the transplant effect my monthly regular Social Security? Can I receive both?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to receive SSDI since you are over the age of 66.
I am 51 and have Stage 4 Kidney Disease. I was put on the transplant list earlier this year but I am not yet on dialysis. Would I qualify for disability or no since I am not on dialysis?

I am 55 and returned to work after a kidney transplant two years ago. It is becoming very difficult to perform my custodial job. The BK and CMV viruses are causing issues, my legs swell, and my arms bleed from the bumping into things. In one year I will lose Medicare Part A and B and will be unable to afford my medication. I want to file for disability but was told I won’t qualify since I am working full time. Are there any options?

Hi Romo,
I would consult the SSA's Blue Book with her doctor to make sure she meet a listing. If she has never worked, she'll also need to be within the income limits.
