I have taken care of my disabled child since 98 and never was able to work because I had no one else who wanted to care for my child and couldn't afford or wasn't willing to place him in a center without me.

My 4yr old son is severe adhd borderline austistic with odd. I can not hold down a job because I can't keep a babysitter. My son is extremely intelligent but has very bad behavorial issues including being violent with me and anyone who cares for him. I am 33yrs old and have been caring for all types of children but I have never in my life encountered a child like my 4yr old. So I guess my question is would I qualify for any financial assistance being that I can't keep a job...?

Hi Amber,
Your son might qualify for SSI. Check over the SSA's Blue Book with your son's pediatrician to see if he meets a Blue Book listing. You'll also have to make sure you're within the income limits. If you are and apply, be sure to add as much medical evidence to the application to help support your claim. Best of luck!
My two children have SSI for there disability am I aloud to go to work for a part time job while they are in school to earn a little more income as the SSI is not enough for our family to live off

Hi Katherine,
For your children to remain eligible, your household income needs to stay within the income limits. I would make sure you will not be exceeding these as they will likely lose their benefits.

Hi Kathy,
He should medically qualify as that is a Compassionate Allowance. His parents will need to be within the income limits though (ssa.gov/ssi/text-child-ussi.htm). If they exceed the household income limits, that is when he will be denied.
My daughter is 11 and has been diagnosed with Dmdd, anxiety, Adhd, insomnia. She has been in special education since starting school due to cognitive delay as well. I work fulltime as a single parent with a income of at least 3,000 dollars a month. I feel that my daughter would benefit from me staying home with her. Could I as well as her, recieve assistance?
