I was married to my ex for 25 years and he divorced me 12 years ago to remarry someone else. We had 4 children together and they are all grown now. I never remarried and I'm still single.

Hi there,
You could qualify if one of the following is true:
1. You are over age 62
2. You are over age 50 and disabled yourself.
You were married long enough to qualify, but because your children are grown you could not receive auxiliary benefits for caring for them.
Hi there,
It is possible if you are otherwise eligible for SSDI payments.
Hi there...
my husband is on SSI.....what do we do if we move to another state?????

Hi Tina,
as SSI is a federal program, you would not need to do anything, but if you are recieving Medicaid, you may have to apply again for it as it is a state-based program.
HOW MANY YEARS MUST A COUPLE BE MARRIED TO QUALIFY TO RECEIVE SOCIAL SECURITY FROM AN EX IF THEY HAVE REMARRIED?
In reply to HOW MANY YEARS MUST A COUPLE by Sherry (not verified)
Hi Sherry,
You'll have to satisfy these requirements to be eligible for benefits on your ex's work record:
You were married to the person for over ten years;
You are at least 62 years old;
You are currently unmarried; and
You are not eligible for a larger Social Security payment on your own record.

Even though I have remarried, I was previously married for 10 years. Would I qualify for any of his SS Benefits when he reaches retirement age?

Hi there,
Unfortunately, you may not be eligible as you have remarried.
My wife has been married before if she die who would get her social security

hi Rodney,
Both of you may be eligible, and in that case the SSA would pay out benefits to both of you.

Hi there,
I'm sorry but you cannot--you were just a couple of months short of hitting the 10-year milestone for receiving his benefits.
