I became disabled in October of 2010 and applied for SSDI. I have been treated by my doctor every week since then and have retained an attorney for my SSDI process.
I have been paying in to the Social Security system for 38 years and am 55 years old. I had been at my last job for 20 years until I had to retire in June 2012 due to my disability.
During my hearing the judge asked the Vocational Expert if I would be able to do full time work in my present position and she told the judge that I would not be able to. The judge then asked I would be able to do full time work in any position and the VE answered no, that I would not.
My doctor also provided paperwork that stated that I have a total disability and could not do any work. I also provided a letter from my former boss who I worked directly for the entire 20 years stating that I was a dependable and dedicated employee until I started missing a lot of days during the summer of 2010 due to the start up of my disability.
I just found out that my case is with a Decision Writer and would be turning the case back over to the judge in a couple of weeks.
My question is, with my work history, age, doctors treatment and findings of the Vocational Expert, what would be my chances of being rewarded benefits?

Hi Adam,
I could be wrong , but it may be that the judge did not feel that your ability to work a sit-down job was worth discussing.

Hi Rich,
We are not affiliated with the SSA and so we would not have that information. You may be able to find it at www.ssa.gov
I had my disability hearing on May 18th 2016 and still haven't heard anything from the ajl. It's been over 90 days. I'm freaking out. Can I call the 1800 number and get my claim number if I don't know it. My lawyer just tells me that I should know some thing by the end of the month or first of Sept. But I would like to know if the judge has made his decision and the status. Are long wait times a good thing? I'm praying for a approval. I was injured at 13 years ago and messed up my back and neck pretty bad. And a lot of never damage in my legs. I went against doctor's orders and work until 3 years ago. When things went got a lot worse with my health. I since then have had one failed neck fusion, which needs to be done again put my gi doctor says no because of my gastroperis and other gi issues. My back is totally missed up a ton of bulged and herniated disc. I have fibermalsia, sponged kidney disease, and other mental illness. I have mri's ct scan x rays and other medical records that prove all of these medcail issues. My question is in your opinion do you think I will be approved?

Hi Richard,
I'm sorry to hear about all that! However, I couldn't really say because we are not affiliated with the SSA and do not have the ability to assess a person's eligibility for benefits.
Where can you find your disability claims number? I have looked on all my paperwork from social security and the claim number shown is my social number. Can anyone help me with this?

Hi there,
You may want to contact the SSA, they may be able to advise you where your claim number would be on your documents.
Hi- my hearing was July 6th. My attorney was pretty confident afterwards, and the judge had her stay behind a minute or two to talk while I waited in the hall. He said several times that I had a very good attorney, commented on my pages of medical records (1500). The VE said I couldn't do my prior job. He was asked if there were any jobs in the economy, he said yes. But then added a caveat that theye were very few that would be left after the hypothetical applied, and judge only asked one hypothetical. Then judge commented that he writes his decisions (15-20 pages), and that I should hear within 6-8 weeks.) I emailed my lawyer to check on status and this time her reply was:" I checked with Social Security and it looks like the Judge was working on the decision just yesterday!" So my question is what does that mean? The last time she checked about 2 weeks ago, there was nothing to report. Since he commented he writes his own decisions in the hearing does that mean he was probably inputting his decision to social security? I know I shouldn't obsess about the wording, we are just so anxious to hear the decision.

Hi Eve,
I really couldn't say what it means as we are not affiliated with the SSA, but if the judge is writing the decision you should find out soon!
