I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?
My brother just had his son and he is one ssi for psych medication reason and I was wondering can his son get benefits from him

Hi David,
Unfortunately, SSI does not offer auxiliary benefits for a beneficiary's children.
My son gets an SSA check off he father that passed away 3 years ago an he has ADHD can he get a check for that too?

Hi Alisha,
He may qualify for SSI if his current benefit is less than 733 dollars a month and he meets the income and financial resource guidelines for SSI benefits.
I get ssdivfor my 14 yr old daughter she works part time is this ok and how much is she allowed to earn a month to avoid losing her Ssdi or having any effect on the Ssdi check. Thank you

Hi Jen,
SSDI benefits do not have an income limit. If she's receiving it based off of your work record, she may not have any set limit that would make her ineligible for benefits.
I applied for either SSDI or SSI, don't know which. My claim is pending, it's been almost 9 months now. My question is I am 51 years ol. And also I am married, been married 24 years. But we have been separated 9 years. He lives in a different city then I do. We have 2 children, which one is 23 and 16. The 16 year old lives with me and is a student in high school. He does not pay child support. So will I get paid SSDI or SSI? And if so will I get paid extra for taking care of my daughter? And will the SSA know, I had a exam with the disability doctor. And he asked me how many kids I had, how long was I married and separated. Please help me I'm very confused.

Hi Robin,
Your 16 year old may be eligible for benefits if you receive SSDI. However, I cannot say which type of benefits that you applied for as we are not affiliated with the SSA and cannot know which benefits you had applied for.
My daughter gets 600 a month off her dad we are together. I know she gets the 600 if we separate my question is does it go up if we separate like additional for my keeping her upkeep.

HI Tami,
You may be eligible for a 'child in care' benefit amount monthly, and you may not need to separate to be eligible for it.

Hi Cynthia,
Yes, they may be able to, it may be a good idea for them to contact the office in their state that administers Medicaid as they can help determine your son's eligibility.

We recently won custody of my step son who had a supplemental social security payment each month. This month when we went to check it there was nothing there. Do we have to reapply for him because he changed addresses? He isn't 18 so I was confused as to why this happened.

Hi Kristen,
Because he is under 18, he requires a payee. I would contact the SSA and his payee to confirm where the money is being deposited.
My newborn was born blind and I'd like to apply for disability benefits for her. Will I have to name the father as he is not in the picture and I want to keep it that way?

Hi Mary,
You may not be required to name the father to apply for benefits.
