Waiting for decision

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I became disabled in October of 2010 and applied for SSDI. I have been treated by my doctor every week since then and have retained an attorney for my SSDI process.

I have been paying in to the Social Security system for 38 years and am 55 years old. I had been at my last job for 20 years until I had to retire in June 2012 due to my disability.

During my hearing the judge asked the Vocational Expert if I would be able to do full time work in my present position and she told the judge that I would not be able to. The judge then asked I would be able to do full time work in any position and the VE answered no, that I would not.

My doctor also provided paperwork that stated that I have a total disability and could not do any work. I also provided a letter from my former boss who I worked directly for the entire 20 years stating that I was a dependable and dedicated employee until I started missing a lot of days during the summer of 2010 due to the start up of my disability.

I just found out that my case is with a Decision Writer and would be turning the case back over to the judge in a couple of weeks.

My question is, with my work history, age, doctors treatment and findings of the Vocational Expert, what would be my chances of being rewarded benefits?

Hi Angela,
I really could not say as I am not affiliated with the SSA, but you may get a decision in the coming months.

Hi there,
I really could not say as I am not affiliated with the SSA. However, you might find out in less than a week!

I applied for ssi on April 1 2012, was denied of course, got an attorney, my hearing date was March 26 2016, they said there were no jobs I can do, my attorney didn't have certain medical records the judge wanted, which caused a delay, I have no money, I'm all out of everything.....last week I was told to sign a paper basically getting screwed out of 2 years of back pay for a fully favorable desicion. ...how much longer is this gone take, it's with the underwriters right now

Hi Jacqueline,
I'm sorry to hear about that! Generally if a case is with the underwriters you may find out what's going on with your case soon.

Hi there,
Generally it will take as long as needed for the judge to consider the decision based on medical records and other evidence that is provided.

Hi Nikki,
I really could not say what your chances are because we are not affiliated with the SSA, however I do know that the SSA does take longer than 5 days to send out approval letters, but you should know within the next few months!

Hello I had my hearing on August 31st of 2016 , the hearing lasted 15 /20 mins maybe judge said she would make a decision in 5 days, it's been 119 days since my hearing and I called the SS office today and they said my claim is still at the hearing office and my case is still pending.. I don't understand why I have not gotten a decision yet? They asked me to fax in a cpl things so I did but that was in October they recieved it and loaded it into the system... Do you think im approved and it's taking so long because the judge is trying to approve me? I'm lost and concerned about this thank you for your reply!!

Hi Nikki,

That seems like a long time to wait for a decision. You should be hearing back from the judge anytime now! Unfortunately there is not a lot more you can do at this point than continue to follow up with the SSA.

My hearing was on September 14, and I call every two days. The rep first told me that my case was with the underwriter and today they told me my case is with the judge and the attorneys waiting for the judge to sign off and the my letter would be mailed out if I'm approved or denied. Help.. Dos this mean I'm approved?

Hi Darla,
As we are not affiliated with the SSA, I really could not say if you are or are not approved, but you may find out soon enough!

Hi Robert,
The fact that the DDS has sent it back may not indicate that the DDS had made a decision.
