I became disabled in October of 2010 and applied for SSDI. I have been treated by my doctor every week since then and have retained an attorney for my SSDI process.
I have been paying in to the Social Security system for 38 years and am 55 years old. I had been at my last job for 20 years until I had to retire in June 2012 due to my disability.
During my hearing the judge asked the Vocational Expert if I would be able to do full time work in my present position and she told the judge that I would not be able to. The judge then asked I would be able to do full time work in any position and the VE answered no, that I would not.
My doctor also provided paperwork that stated that I have a total disability and could not do any work. I also provided a letter from my former boss who I worked directly for the entire 20 years stating that I was a dependable and dedicated employee until I started missing a lot of days during the summer of 2010 due to the start up of my disability.
I just found out that my case is with a Decision Writer and would be turning the case back over to the judge in a couple of weeks.
My question is, with my work history, age, doctors treatment and findings of the Vocational Expert, what would be my chances of being rewarded benefits?

Have you got an answer yet Jaydee? My son is still waiting. His hearing was early January....I can't believe it's taking so long. Almost 5 months.

5 months, that's crazy! I had my hearing on 4/11/17, I just now found out the judge made a decision, and sent it to their writer (s). This in itself can take up to 2 months on average, but typically doesnt. I hope you got your answer by now, prayers for you!

I had my hearing June 20 finally on October 23 I requested dire need. Friday October 27 I was informed my request was approved and my case is marked critical and go to top of list I’ve been waiting for my case to assigned to a decision I was told I could have a check as soon as 5-7 days. Never knew about dire need request until I spoke to my local office after waiting over 4 months for a decision writer to be assigned. Not holding my breath on it moving as fast as they say but at least now maybe I won’t be homeless!!!

I am not sure what state you are in but I had my hearing in Fort Lauderdale FL on November 3, 2016 and was approved from the bench and I am still waiting. I was told they are short staffed and this is the reason for the wait. Meanwhile my life is being turned upside down!

I had my disability hearing at the beginning of January 2017, it's now August 2017 AND I STILL HAVE NO ANSWER, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW THE JUDGE MADE A DECISION IN APRIL OR MAY!!

Hi Sandra,
I'm sorry to hear about that! Every case is different and can take varying amounts of time. Hang in there!

Hi Sandra, don't you get tired of hearing " hang in there " ? If I were you I would be calling my local office and if that doesnt get nowhere , I would file for dire needs , i have heard the longer the wait the most likely they're writing a denial, because denials have to explain the reasons of the weight given to acceptable medical sorces , and also be edited in layman terms for average people to understand the jargon of judicial language, hope that aint the case I wish you luck on getting approved.

I had my hearing 2/23/17 and am still being told that it is under review with the judge and it is 10/04/17. So I am not holding my breath. I am just about done but I can't work so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. My kids and friends are helping me but they have lives too. So I wish you luck!!!
