Hi there,
That's too bad! Here's how you can qualify for epilepsy:
If you have grand mal seizures, you'll need to be able to prove that you have one seizure at least once per month, despite having taken prescribed treatment for at least three months.
If you have petit mal seizures, you'll need to prove that you experience at least one seizure per week, despite having taken prescribed treatment for at least three months.
I have what can loosely be termed a "birth defect." (Congenital Hydrocephalus). I am shunted. I have had corrective surgeries since birth; my most recent being in 2014. In 1993, one day before my 24th Birthday; while on vacation out of state, I had my first grand mal seizure "out of the clear blue" with no warning. Since then, I have been on meds to keep the seizures at bay. I know, by my own doing, if I miss 2 days of medication; either by mistake or intentionally (I have done both); I have a grand mal seizure followed by confusion etc..
I cannot "prove that you have one seizure at least once per month, despite having taken prescribed treatment for at least three months" as you advised "Anonymous." I am a State-licensed motor vehicle operator. (MD) I have been able to maintain a full time job with the Federal Gov't. despite my seizure disorder for 28 years as of AUG2016; though [I have] fought a small number of battles to do so. My current supervisor [demanded] medical information from my doctor which was cautiously provided. Since I am not quite at the 30-years-of-service benchmark;I'm only 46; and my seizure disorder and my continued control of it are a part of life for me, I would like to know my disability retirement options and how to make a disability retirement happen. I do not feel I work an additional 16 years in my admin position (To 62), with no foreseeable advancement potential. (Another topic for a different time)
(My apologies.....[quite a bit] on MY mind).

Hi Darren,
I'm sorry to hear that! You might need to speak with a disability advocate or attorney about this. If you fill out the evaluation on the left on this page, you can have one reach out to you. You can also fill out the form here:
