How many credits do I need

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My situation, like many others I'm sure, is rather complicated. So in order to cut down on my typing and your reading, I'll try to stick to the facts.

I was born in 1986, I'm 29, and became a c5 quad in 2004, I was 18 years and 2 months old. I never had a job so was denied benefits but approved for SSI.

A year ago I entered into a BCI research study and started being paid $200 a month. They are trying to now get that increased to $720 a month, to help me save for a van. Unfortunately their generous raise of $500 will cannibalize enough of my SSI to only have a net increase of $200 in my income. In the long run though this might be a godsend.

I am now being paid enough taxable income to start earning work credits. The information on the website is not clear on how many credits, and how long I have to work, in this situation though. The table shows for being disabled before 21 I needed 6 credits over the 1.5 years leading up to my injury (ridiculous, but that's beside the point). Now that I have passed that window how many credits, and over how long do I need? Hopefully I will be in this study long enough to meet that number.

Hi there,
If you are 29 now, you will need 16 work credits to qualify.

Is there a number of years that you are required to work before you are able to qualify for social security benefits? Also, what is the minimum earning that you have to make a year if there is one?

Hi dean a

Hi I've posted here before, but got some more questions.. I live in northern California and I'm waiting for a hearing date.. me and my attorny filed for hearing 2/17/16 so it's been almost a year waiting.. anyone that has had there hearing in sacramento ca, how long did they actually wait b4 they got there hearing date.. I'm just stressing and the anxiety is not helping either. I've been denied twice already. This is like my third time I've applied the first 2 times I was denied 2 timessage and never further persued it bc I wasn't really seeing a doctor reregularly and didn't have a attorny that time either. Now this time I have alot of medical proof and as well as my doctor sent in a letter stating that I cannot work full time 8hrs a day 52 weeks a year, and if I was to work at all I'd need extra breaks.. basically my question are if anyone has any idea how much longer I will have to wait.. my application date is 6/19/15 and my onset date is 75/13.. Hi I have a question.... I have been seeing a doctor reregular for my issues.. I have had major brain surgery twice, back and neck problems.. from the brain surgeries my balance is very off, speech and vision problems, long term memory, I can;t close my eyes or I;ll fall, I have to hold onto something when I walk, cant walk 50' with out knee and back pain, im on pain meds.. there is much more.. stage 3 kidney failure.. are my chaces good of winning my case in front of judge.. how long was the wait here in ca for your hearing.. this wait is killing me.. I have to much anxiety.. very stressful.. hope you have good news for me..
Thanks

Bryan

Hi Jeff,
I'm sorry to hear about that! Generally, your chances are good if you have a condition that makes you unable to work, and if you would not be able to be re-trained for anything, your chances are also better. If your documentation is good and you have a lawyer, your chances of approval increase even more.
As far as the wait time, the national average wait time is 17 months, so it may be at least that long.
