Wow, this is taking a long time. I'm in New Mexico, and after waiting 16 months for a hearing I've now been waiting five months for the judge's decision. It really seems excessive. I contacted ODAR last week, and they told me my case is with the decision writers and will take several more weeks. Is this normal???
Hi there,
Unfortunately, a wait time of 16 months is relatively normal, the national average wait time is 17 months.
I'm in the same boat. Applied years ago. AljHearing December 8th 2015,
....request more documents....
2nd all hearing (by phone) April 5th 2016
....request one more damn piece of paper...
Every time I call(pretty much every week) all I get is its on the judges desk. 136 days and counting. I'm in Washington state. My file was extensive and complete and got bounced between two different judges so I figured it would take a lil longer but I haven't even heard that it has gone into writing! Ugh. Wtf. I guess all we can do is hurry up and wait :( you are not alone my friend. But I've waited three plus years so what's another month or two. I feel like I gotta just forget about it and be pleasantly surprised. But there is always the chance that it comes back as a partial or denial. Idk idk idk. I'm rambling. Sorry. Take care. And remember. Don't wait..... Meditate.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for sharing your story! It's true, it does take awhile.
I have a question that I can only find very few comments about this on other sites. My case is currently awaiting a hearing in NC. I have already met 3 listing and now probably 4. My lawyer had request a OTR that was denied. The day after the denial came my attorney received HL-X-56 (5/2011) and I received the cc with the request for updated medical records which are in my Efild. My attorneys assistant emailed me wanting my medications and side effects to add in. She reported to the hearing office my case is ready to schedule.
In the following email she stated that they office typical does not get the HLX form unless they are ready to schedule. The assistant thinks my case has been expidited T this time. I called the hearing office and was told my case would not be scheduled until April 2017. I have very extensive medical records stating my neuropathy is evenly fibula ting and I need either. A walker or cane depending on if I am at home our out of my house for appt. so I am trying to gain clarity. I also received SSA 827.

Hi D,
Unfortunately, unless you had explicitly asked for your case to be expedited, the SSA may not prioritize your case in such a way.
MY HUSBAND APPLIED, WAS DENIED, WE APPEALED ATTORNEY DID NOT TURN IN DOCUMENTED MEDICAL EVIDENCE (WANTED MORE $) PROVED SUCH AND CASE WAS RETURNED TO ALJ (AFTER 18 MONTHS) WAITED 8 MONTHS FOR HEARING NOTICE, HAD HEARING 7/29/15 NO WORD YET.
MY QUESTIONS IS MY HUSBAND TURNS 62 IN APRIL, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CASE IF WE APPLY FOR EARLY RETIREMENT?
In reply to MY HUSBAND APPLIED, WAS by BRENDA (not verified)
Hi Brenda,
I am very sorry to hear that. Since your husband was denied either SSI or SSDI benefits, if he applies for early retirement he would just collect monthly social security retirement benefits. However, if you win the appeal and receive those benefits and decide to enter early retirement you cannot receive SSDI/SSI and monthly social security benefits at the same time.
I hope this helps.
Best Wishes,
Eric
