My son turned 18 in October and i have a court order that ssi payments go to me in place of child support due to dad being disabled. His dad convinced my son that money is his to spend how he chooses. So my son is keeping money since it comes in his name now. So my question is this do i file with social security again or do i have to file for a new child support payment. He is still a senior in high school till may.
Hi there,
I really could not say as child support laws vary by state , however if your child had re-applied at age 18 and was able to recieve benefits based off of their own income and resources, they may be entitled to those benefits themselves.
