SSDI and transition to 'Regular' SS

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I am receiving SSDI, and chose to also receive 'early' SS benefits at age 62 instead of waiting until full retirement age. I understand my SSDI plus my SS is paying what I would have expected to receive at age 65 under 'regular' SS. My question is, when I do turn 65 and SSDI transitions over to regular SS, will this be at the 'early SS' rate of age 62, or will it be at the 'regular' SS rate of age 65? (Which would leave the monthly amount unchanged.) I am permanently disabled, so not worried about any future redesignation of status.

SSI recipients applied for SSDI

I've been on SSI over 3 years & also working part time & now I've acquired enough work credits for SSDI which would be a higher monthly payment. I didn't realize till my interview that applying for SSDI requires a new determination of disability etc. Should you apply for SSDI? Already being on SSI improve your approval for SSDI?What if denied SSDI would I lose my SSI?

Family Maximum

I was recently approved. Been researching family maximum and always come across the "won't exceed 150 of PIA). Here's the hypothetical. Let's say my PIA is $1000.00. Is my family maximum 1500 (1000*1.5) or is it 2500 (1000 PIA + 1000*105)? In other words, is the Family Maximum separate and distinct from my benefit or is my benefit INCLUDED in the total?
Thanks

Disabled at 19

My son was disabled (diagnosed and has doctor's papers to prove it), but we were trying various treatments for 7 years putting all our resources, only to finally get it the disability is chronic, i.e. terminal.

Is it too late now to apply for SSDI based upon his parent's social security as he hasn't really worked more than 4 hours a week, if at all.
