how much of step parents income does SS use when figuring SSI benefits for a stepchild

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I am married and did not report changes to social security. My spouse is my sons step father(obviously) and I am curious how much of his income is figured as support toward my son. Also will there be any penalty for the lack of reporting to SS administration regarding the marital status change?

Is ssi for a disabled child an asset to be divided by divorcing parents?

My wife and I are separated, getting divorced. We have a 12 year old son with aspergers. When we first separated, she applied for ssi for our son under my name, without my knowledge and consent, because she knew that with my household income, he would be eligible. Her household income was too high to be eligible. Her motivation was that she would receive half of his ssi as part of the divorce. I have now been appointed as his representative payee.

SSI direct deposit's , claims they have over paid me?

I am a 56 yr old and disabled, both physically and mentally. I share living expenses with my 77 yr. old mother whom lives with me and she only receives her S.S. each month, which is even considered way below poverty level. Even with both combined monies, we are still below poverty. SSI sent me a letter, roughly 2 years ago stating that THEY had made an error in my direct deposits and that they will be taking out each month, of my SSI ( which we all know SSI does not give much money as it is ) until I have paid THEM back the full amount of $3,500.

Me and my mother got apartment in Section 8 premises for low income families.
My mother is senior and her only income is SSI payments and I am adult with
income coming from work. Amount of rent we pay based on 30% of our combined income. So, if my income goes up amount of rent we pay goes up and if my income goes down amount of rent we pay goes down.

SSI cutting payments for no reason

Hi, I have been getting SSI for a while now and just this January my payment was reduced by 400+ dollars for no apparent reason. I did not get any overpayment letter or notice it was being reduced. My circumstances have not changed in any way. I actually found out when I went to the back and saw my January payment did not come as expected. I only check my account at the end of the month so I had no idea.

My ex husband lied to Social Security about me

I am the representative payee for my son, who has hypoxic brain injury.

I recently learned I was supposedly "under investigation" in a jurisdiction I don't, nor have ever lived in! It's been a mess trying to get it straight. I called the social services dept in question about this and was told I am not, nor was I ever under investigation. The reason I know it was my ex is because HE lives there! He is currently facing trial for crimes against said son...

SSI and Divorce

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My wife has been disabled with a neurological condition since March 2012. She applied for disability and was qualified almost immediately. Although we are not legally separated, we do live apart. One reason we are not divorced at this stage is due to insurance purposes. My question is this: if we were to divorce, would she see an increase in her monthly SSI income? and would she then qualify for additional SSDI benefits?
