Disability due to Stroke

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have suffered two strokes, one in 2005 that left my left side slightly paralyzed and one in late 2013 which affected continence.

I'll be 67 in July 2015 and still work full time as a mechanical Engineer.

DO I qualitfy for disaability and how would I go about filing?

Respiratory issues dictate work location

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

About 9 months ago, I had to quit working with birds after many yrs due to constant coughing and diminished lung capacity. At that time, I'd gone to a 3 day work week to lessen my exposure to the workplace. Upon being transferred to another dept in another building I resumed work in an office setting but due to the inversions and pollution in the valley where I work, I still cough when exposed to the pollution trapped in the valley throughout much of the winter. Any employment I obtain will require travel to the valley and will exacerbate the respiratory issues.

Parent's SSI to supplement DAC receiving SSD?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My disabled adult brother receives Disability. Might he be eligible also for either our deceased stepfather's SSI or living biological father's SSI?

I believe my parents relinquished guardianship to the state when he was younger so that he could qualify. Is this a factor? (forgive me if I've mussed up the terminology)

Many thanks for your time!

Unemployment while you are waiting for SSI and Disability- Can you?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

12/30/14 I signed up for Disability and SSI. At the time I was not getting unemployment, as it was being reviewed. Last day of work was 11/22/14. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it has been very painful to work. Today, I found out they are granting my unemployment claim. Can I receive unemployment until my SSI/Disability benefits start?

Child with PDD-NOS and ADHD

Submitted by Deanna on

Hello,

I have a son who is 12yrs of age and needs to be watched constantly. He is developing signs of depression and I am afraid to leave the house. I have 4 children in all and not sure if my husband makes too much to qualify for a family of 6. I can not work but if I could receive this, it would help us out a lot financially because I can not afford to put him in programs for social skills. What would the income bracket be for us?

Are work credits & benefits reduced over time between leaving job and applying for SSDI?

I'm pretty sure I meet the criteria for disability. I was diagnosed with rapid-cycling manic depression thirty-five years ago and was hospitalized many times. I still managed to get my law degree when I was 30 and work as a litigator for fifteen years, but job stress and constant traveling caused my condition to deteriorate and I was hospitalized again in early 2008. I tried to work after I got out, but was just not stable enough to continue beyond May of that year. My psychiatrist told me to stop working while we tried to get my treatment-resistant condition under control.
