I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi Jay,
If your spouse is receiving SSDI, she should experience no change in benefits. SSDI is based off of work history and not income or resources. If your son is still otherwise eligible for SSDI benefits, moving in with you would also not change his benefits either.
my husband has been approved for ssdi and he says that he will be getting money from our three kids. will I be the one who receives this monies or will it be him ? how does that work
In reply to my husband has been approved by kimbery (not verified)
Hi Kimberly,
They will go into his account unless he specifically lists you and your bank account as the payee account. Once approved, you could always go to the SSA and schedule the funds to be sent to you. You will likely be able to do this if you are the primary caregiver for the children.
Question, my grandsons parents, are not together, the baby lives with momma. Daddy gets ssd and his mother is his,rep payee. We were told by his mom that the baby can get benefits cause his,dad is on it . But the gma woukd, receive tge checks then send them up to my daughter. Can my daughter apply for this herself and get checks directly sent to her for her son?

Hi there,
I am unfortunately confused by this situation. If the baby's father is on SSDI benefits, the baby would be eligible for up to 50% of these benefits. Whoever is the beneficiary (in this case, the father) will likely receive those payments. The baby's mom can schedule an appointment with the SSA and fill out paperwork to become the representative payee if she wishes.

Hi Darlene,
If your children are under age 18, they will be eligible for up to 50% of their father's SSDI benefits. Other outstanding payments should not affect this.
I recently gained custody of my disabled grandson who receives ssi, will they now go by my income or will they still go by his mom's income?

Hi Ann,
I am unfortunately not 100% of this, but I believe they will look at your household income. So if you are the caretaker for the child, they should evaluate your income.
My son receives SSDI ..if one of my children moves back home will my sons SSDI decrease? And no my son is 18 & does Not work. Thank you for your time.
In reply to My son receives SSDI ..if one by Kim (not verified)
Hi Kim,
If your son is receiving benefits under his own record, his benefits will not be affected. If the child moves back home and is over 18, your son's auxiliary benefits will also not be affected.
How do you get a letter stating how much your dependent get once you get social security disability

Hi Freddie,
You can get that information by calling the SSA at 1-800-772-1213, or you can visit www.ssa.gov to find that out.

Hi Desirea,
If your ex husband is getting SSDI, then yes, your child may be eligible for SSDI auxiliary benefits. We are not affiliated with the SSA, so the best place to start would be the SSA themselves. You can contact them at 1-800-772-1213
I am currently pregnant, & the father of my child recieves disability. I was wondering if my child could draw disability off of him because his income is not
Enough to support a child? Or will they go up on his disability?
In reply to I am currently pregnant, & by Ambria (not verified)
Hi Ambria,
if your child's father gets SSDI benefits, then your child may be eligible for auxiliary benefits based off of his work history. If your child's father is on SSI, there are no auxiliary benefits offered for SSI.
My wife is getting her disability started and I wondering since we have 100% custody of all there ages 6 8 and 11if they will automatically start getting a check as well
In reply to My wife is getting her by chris stone (not verified)
Hi Chris,
Your children would not start automatically getting checks, you would have to apply for SSDI auxiliary benefits for them.
