I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

I AM IN UGANDA AFRICA AND AM MARRIED TO A UGANDAN WOMAN FOR THREE YEARS, I AM A SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY MEMBER AND HAVE ADOPTED MY WIFE'S DAUGHTER SIX YEARS OLD WITH CELEBRAL PALSY. IS SHE ELIGIABLE FOR BENEFITS? THANK YOU

Hi Harvey,
If you are already receiving disability benefits and the adoption is recognized by the U.S. government, then your child may be eligible for auxiliary benefits based on your work record. However, it is always best to contact the SSA in situations like this, you can do so at their website, which is www.ssa.gov .
My husband gets disability and my kids and I draw a meager check off him can I go to work and claim the kids on my income taxes?
In reply to My husband gets disability by Diana (not verified)
Hi Diana,
You would have to check with am tax expert as to how you can claim certain things on your income taxes, but yes, you may be able to go to work as auxiliary disability benefits do not have earned income limits associated with them.
Can my 11 year old son get a disability check his diagnosis is ADHD Impulsive Conduct Disorder Schizoaffective Disorder Bipolar type
In reply to Can my 11 year old son get a by Melinda (not verified)
Hi Melinda,
I could not say with total confidence because we are not affiliated with the SSA and cannot assess an applicant's chances of winning benefits, but your child may be able to be awarded benefits because of his conditions.
OK. I have my granddaughter adopted and we have her full time. From what I gather she can draw half my $880 a month at $440. I read as long as it does not go over the family maximum benefits. I read the very complicated formula and I can't figure out what my maximum is. Also what "bend" I'm in. Can you enlightenment me on any of this ? I called SSA twice but got nowhere. Thank you.

Hi Dee,
You may want to use the SSA's website to get more information about your disability benefits, depending on what type of benefits you receive your granddaughter may not be eligible for benefits based on your work record. You can find the SSA website at www.ssa.gov
My husband is deceased. He was recieveing a disability check but he never had a job. Do our kids qualify for benefits?
In reply to My husband is deceased. He by Micaela Prater (not verified)
Hi Micaela,
I'm sorry for your loss.
Your children may not be eligible for survivor's benefits if your husband did not have a sufficient work record to be eligible for those benefits.
My daughters ex boyfriend receives ssi. She has custody of their daughter. My question is. Will he receive money every month for the child? Or will they send a check to my daughter?
In reply to My daughters ex boyfriend by Cindy (not verified)
Hi Cindy,
If your daughter's ex-boyfriend receives SSI, then there would not be a check sent to your daughter or her child as SSI benefits do not offer benefits for dependents. However, if he receives SSDI, then you can contact the SSA and they can change the payee for your grandchild's benefits.
I was getting social security for my four children until they turned 18, then they started getting it for themselves, they stopped getting their checks because they were not in school, so I was just wondering if my 34 year old can get it started back up

Hi there,
They may be able to receive benefits if they are considered disabled by the SSA. It may be a good idea to contact a disability advocate or attorney, they can help you through the application process and can fight for you if you need to appeal the SSA's decision. You can have one reach out to you here:
