I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi there,
You may want to contact the SSA regarding your application, the waiting period is generally five months, so you may be ineligible for benefits or they may be paying those benefits to your ex-spouse.

Hi Tim,
I'm sorry to hear that.
I really could not say regarding the check because I'm unsure how the other child is receiving those benefits, but they may stay the same amount even if one child becomes ineligible.
How is it that my daughter is getting RSDI from her stepfather

Hi Dwayne,
She may be able to if she is considered a dependent of her stepfather and would be considered eligible for benefits.
My child receives disability check because her father is disabled. Will she loss her check if she gets a part time job?

Hi Amanda,
As SSDI auxiliary benefits are based on work record rather than income, she may not lose those benefits if she is still otherwise eligible for them.
Can CPS KEEP THE SURVIVOR BENIFits after he or she has been placed with a family

Hi Sherry,
I'm not really sure if they are able to, it may depend on the laws regarding CPS in your state.
My daughter got adopted in 4th grade, and is now in 11th grade. She is turning 18, January 27th. Three months away. She got adopted by her grandparents, which her grandmother has passed away. She passed away when she was in 8th grade. Well the ending of 8th grade. She just started her 11th grade year. She is a year behind. Her grandfather uses the money. She doesn't see it. Is there any possible way my daughter could receive her own ssi check since she is still in school and planning to attend college after she graduates? She wants to move into her own place so that she CAN finish school.

Hi there,
Your daughter may be able to receive benefits based on her income and resources after she turns 18, in the meantime you may want to contact the SSA and have them re-assign your child's payee.
I am in NY. And my girlfriend is pregnant. She is one temporary disability and I am a full time employee. We do not love together, but are both going to sign the birth certificate. Am I going to have to pay support? Will temp disability come after me for child support and how will this affect her claim? Also will this effect her ssi claim that is in process.

Hi Vin,
I really could not say if you're going to have to pay child support, as I'm not an expert in family law. If she's still otherwise eligible, this may not affect her SSI claim.

Hi there,
You may if she is still otherwise eligible, like if she is still in primary or secondary education up to age 19.
I have a question. My ex (never legally married) was approved for disability benefits and listed our daughter as a qualifying child. I am remarried and my husband is looking into adopting my daughter. If he adopts her will that interfere with her receiving auxillary benefits?
In reply to I have a question. My ex by Anonymous (not verified)
Hi there,
She may still be eligible after adoption, however it's always a good idea to contact the SSA if you are unsure about your child's eligibility.
We are finally headed to court on my husband's ssdi claim. After we win (speaking faith here), we are going to file for our bio-daughter to receive child benefits. Can anyone tell me if our daughter (non-bio) that we took guardianship over, can also receive benefits? We are her legal guardians and she is under 18. We have been in legal guardianship for nearly 7 yrs.,long before my husband's injury/disability claim.
In reply to We are finally headed to by Jennifer (not verified)
Hi Jennifer,
Your non-bio daughter may be eligible for auxiliary benefits as well, and if both children are listed on the application, they may be automatically be granted benefits.
My foster child receives a Social Security disability benefit from her birth mother. If I adopt the child, will the child loose that benefit?
