Starting Work - What do I need to Know?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I've been getting SSI since I was 18 back in 2010 because of a severe problem I'm just now starting to overcome. I decided to start looking for jobs because I did spend the years learning stuff on my own that I'd like to do and because the amount of SSI is barely enough for food after my bills are paid. I have to budget $3/day for food which is hard where I am when a single apple itself is almost $2! I just cannot do it anymore, it's not healthy for me. So I'm forcing myself to work and better myself as I go.

Trust money repayment

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I set up a trust for my son a few years ago. His cousins will be in charge of it after our death. The lawyer who set this up said any money he uses must be payed back to the account. If his cousin buys him a chair for instance he must repay that amount back. I have tried to look up about this but nothing I find says it needs to be payed back like this. He is on ssi and Medicaid. Thank you for any help you can give.

Moving To Another State

I am considering moving from mississippi to louisiana and would like some advice. I own an old run down house and small lot in Ms which i will sell at some point along with an old truck. I would use the money from the sale to buy a decent vehicle and a modest place. I hope to get at least 20,000 for my place. My friend in La says he might sell me his place...a mobile home in rural La.

Lower SSI payment

I received a letter saying that my expected wages were going to be $1,843 for April which will cause me to have my benefits lowered by $126 starting June That was not true.. How can they make up a number without asking my wages for the month.. It was $300 less than they estimated. Any experience with this?

Is This An: Asset and/or Income? According to SSI

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I found an app recently called Acorns which provides micro-investment. It takes the change from your day to day transactions and invests it and you receive some dividends as well.

Now I am curious as to if I was to sign up for this app would this effect my SSI?

I don't intended on investing huge amounts as I barely survive with my SSI and SSDI as it is but I can spare some change. I however don't want to sign up and loose my benefits just for some "beer money".

how can i get my amount of my checks raised?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I was permanently hurt at work an had to move in with my parents. Took 6 years to finally be approved. They set the amount of my check as living with my parents rent free. $488.00. My parents have declined in health an I can no longer take care of them. I have to get my own place but cannot do this on such a small income. What can I do? What will I need? To get my checks raised. Also do I qualify for a SSI supplemental check? Do I qualify for medical from the department of human services? Also my back pay is a large amount an can't get it for a year.

SSI and Social Security Survivor's Benefits

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

My adult son (autistic non-verbal, age 25) is currently receiving SSI. When I die, he will be eligible for monthly 50% SSA Survivor Benefits of approx. $1,400. My question is would the survivor benefit be treated as income to him and how would it impact his continued eligibility under SSI. He has a 3rd party grantor irrevocable special needs trust, but I do not believe this offers a solution since the survivor payments would be made out to him.
